NEW SCORING SYSTEM

Has it never happened to you to arrive first in a WOD but not seeing your performance recognized in the ranking?
Do you believe that the traditional score assignment systems used in the CrossFit competitions are a bit penalizing for those who close certain trials with a significant gap?

To limit this problem and ensure the best competition experience for the IBB competitors we created this scoring method:

We decided to use an alternative scoring method for the IBB ranking

Currently there are two scoring methods in the CrossFit competitions rankings:

“Traditional” Method

1° place 1 point, 2° place 2 points, 3° place 3 points, ecc ecc

“CrossFit Games” Method

1° place 100 points, 2° place 94 points, 3° place 88 points, ecc ecc

We decided to apply a third method that we’ll call RedWall Scoring thanks to which we want to enhance the gap (seconds, rep ore kg) between the athletes.

Let us give you an example and analyze two possible cases:

CASE A

WOD 1 “FRAN”

Athlete                      Time   Points

1°place Pippo                 4:00    1

2°place Pluto                 4:02    2

3°place Paperino          6:00    3

CASE B

WOD 1 “FRAN”

Athlete                  Time   Points

1°place Pippo              4:00    1

2°place Pluto              5:00    2

3°place Paperino       6:00    3

We think that is not fair that Pluto gets 2 points irrespective of the gap he had from who won the WOD, in CASE A Pluto arrived at 2 seconds from PIPPO, in CASE B Pluto arrived at 1 minute to from PIPPO.

(The same would have happened if we’ve used the “CrossFit Games” method)

With our method, instead, the points given to the athlete at the end of the WOD will be expressed in thousand proportionally to the winner’s score (time/rep/kg) by following a simple mathematical rule:

If the score is a time

Athele X Points = ((WOD Winner Time) / (Athlete X Time)) * 1000

If the score is a number of rep or kg

Athele X Points = ((Athlete X Rep) / (WOD Winner Rep)) * 1000

NOTE: The result of the formula will always be ROUNDED DOWN

Going back to our example, by using this scoring method the ranking would have been:

CASE A

WOD 1 “FRAN”

Athlete                  Time   Points

1°place Pippo            4:00    1000

2°place Pluto            4:02       991

3°place Paperino     6:00       666

CASE B

WOD 1 “FRAN”

Athlete                  Time   Points

1°place Pippo              4:00    1000

2°place Pluto              5:00      800

3°place Paperino       6:00      666

We hope that this choice can help all the athletes to do their best, trying hard in all the WOD, to make the competition even more exiting and open until the last rep.

Enjoy!
